Outdoor Recreation

Lake Harding and Goat Rock Lake provide year-round fun for boaters and fishing enthusiasts. Hiking and camping spots include Callaway Gardens, F.D. Roosevelt State Park, Pine Mountain Trail and Pine Mountain Campground. Roosevelt Stables and Butts Mill Farm offer guided horseback riding. Big Bear Farm and Poplar Place Farm Equestrian Center provide riding lessons, plus world-class horse shows and competitive events. Private hunting tracts are available in Harris County.

Public Parks and Organized Sports

The Harris County Recreation Department supervises Harris County’s public parks, as well as youth and adult sports programs that include baseball, softball, basketball, football and soccer in conjunction with the Harris County Soccer Association.

The Harris County Community Center, currently under construction, will feature a basketball gym (also available as multi-use space) and a zero-entry indoor pool designed for competition and recreational swimming. In addition, the 42,000 square foot facility will house Recreation Department offices, classroom space, and a large meeting room equipped with a digital overhead projection system. 1,700 square feet of shaded outdoor patio area will complete the complex, which is being constructed with SPLOST funds.
